Jubilation as Ohimegye Turbans Adamu Suleiman Zico as Ohinoyi of Adabode

The ancient town of Koton-Karfe was agog on Sunday as the Ohimegye Igu of Koton-Karfe and Chairman, Lokoja/Kogi Local Government Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji (Dr) Saidu Akawu Salihu, turbaned Mallam Adamu Suleiman Zico as the new Ohinoyi of Adabode.

The colourful ceremony, held at the Ohimege’s palace, attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, community elders, youth groups, and residents from across Kogi State.

The atmosphere was charged with cultural dances, drumming, and performances celebrating the town’s rich heritage and unity.

In his remarks, the Ohimegye Igu praised Mallam Adamu Suleiman Zico for his integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to community development.

He urged the new Ohinoyi to promote peace, unity, and progress in Adabode, describing his turbaning as “a well-deserved recognition of a man of character and service.”

Mallam Adamu Suleiman Zico, who until his appointment served as Technical Director, Kogi State Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Sports Officer, Lokoja Local Government, and Chief Coach of Zico Football Club, Lokoja, expressed deep gratitude to the Ohimegye Igu, the traditional council, and all dignitaries present.

“I am deeply honoured by this recognition,” he said.

“I promise to uphold the values of our forefathers, promote peace, and work tirelessly for the development of our community. I also call on our youth to remain focused, disciplined, and ready to contribute to Adabode’s growth.”

Dignitaries at the event, including the member representing Kogi LGA state Constituency, Hon. Idris Aliyu and traditional rulers, commended Mallam Adamu Suleiman Zico for his humility, vision, and service to humanity.

They described his elevation as well-deserved and urged him to continue his exemplary leadership.

Community leaders and stakeholders also pledged their support to the new Ohinoyi, expressing optimism that his reign would usher in more development projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and peaceful coexistence among residents.

Outside the palace, jubilant crowds took to the streets in celebration.

Residents danced to traditional drums, waved banners, and showered praises on their new chief.

Traders, artisans, and youth groups joined the festivities, emphasizing the pride and unity the event brought to Adabode.

Many described the appointment of Mallam Adamu Suleiman Zico as historic.

“It’s not every day that someone who has contributed immensely to youth development and sports is elevated to such a revered position,” an elder said.

“We are proud and confident he will take Adabode to greater heights.”

The ceremony concluded with prayers from Islamic and traditional clerics, seeking wisdom, good health, and a prosperous reign for the new Ohinoyi.

Guests were later treated to traditional delicacies, cultural performances, and interactive sessions that further strengthened the bond between the palace and the people.
