The Executive Chairman of Idah local government council, Hon. Alfa Halilu has appealed to the Federal and Kogi state governments and relevant intervention agencies to assist in the issue of erosion in Dr. Sanni Shaibu street in Idah.

Halilu, who led an entourage to survey the widespread and devastating gully erosion site in the area made the passionate appeal on Monday.

He highlighted the need for immediate sand filling and land reclamation projects to preserve the community.

The LG boss emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further damage and displacement.

“Dr. Sanni Shaibu street, here in Idah has lost substantial land to decades of unchecked erosion. If nothing is done urgently, the community will soon be lost due to the accelerating destruction caused by erosion,” Halilu stressed.

According to him, many residents have been left homeless as the erosion has caused buildings to collapse.

Halilu, who is fondly called Alhaji Alhaji further called on the Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator George Akume, who according to him, one time served as the Sole Administrator of Idah Local Government when it was part of the former Benue State, to utilize his office to lobby for the project to be executed through the ecological fund.

“We remain hopeful that relief will come to save the community and protect their children and heritage from destruction, which is why we are now calling on the world for assistance.

“It is our sincere hope and fervent prayer that this matter receives the compassion and attention it urgently needs to dry their tears,” Halilu prayed.
