Lokoja Da’iratul Tijjaniya held its 13th annual Juma’at Zikir to celebrate the New Islamic Year known as Hijrah 1446.
The event was held at the Maigari of Lokoja palace on Friday evening, and well-attended by the representatives of the divisional Imams, scholars, leaders of various Muslim associations, students from Arabic and Islamic institutions, among others.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Maikafi, described the Hijrah as a significant event in the history of Islam.
He urged the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to heed the longstanding call by the Muslim community in the state for the declaration of first of Muharam as public holiday.
The Emir emphasized the need for peaceful co- existence amongst people of Lokoja local government area, irrespective of religion and ethnic affiliations.
In his remarks, the guest lecturer and Chief Imam of Al-Irfan Mosque, Sheikh Imam Junaidu Abubakar Sadiq Bauchi, said Hijrah, by implication, goes beyond the migration of Prophet Muhammad and his companions from Makkah to Madinah, saying it also includes eschewing bad deeds for good deeds, and promoting what is right always against the wrong.
Sheikh Sadiq noted that the first thing the Prophet did on arrival in Madinah was to build a mosque, underscoring the importance of mosque in Islam.
He enjoined Muslim leaders to learn patience as a virtue for effective leadership.
“A leader does not jump at issues but pays attention and listens more than talking. This is part of the lessons derivable from the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”
Highlight of the event was special prayer offered for the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and all political stakeholders in the State.
