The Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Grassroots Mobilization, Ahmed Shehu Yabagi, on Wednesday, organized a Maulud celebration and Fidau prayer in memory of his late mother, Hajiya Maimuna Shehu, who passed away 40 days ago.
The event, held at the Yabagi family residence on Cantonment Street, Lokoja, attracted a large gathering of dignitaries including Islamic clerics, politicians, traditional title holders, market women, and youths who came to offer prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
The prayer session was led by Alhaji Alifa Estu Kenchi, the Magajin Gari of Lokoja, who also delivered a touching sermon.
In his message, Kenchi urged Muslims to live righteous lives and emulate the virtues of the late Hajiya Maimuna Shehu, whom he described as a devout Muslim woman known for her humility, generosity, and piety.
The Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Muhammad Aleru, a seasoned banker and community leader, commended Ahmed Shehu Yabagi for always remembering his late parents and honoring their memory through prayers and acts of kindness.
He noted that such gestures are a reflection of deep moral values and a God-fearing upbringing.
In his remarks, Hon. Muhammad Maikudi Yusuf, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja Local Government Area, praised Yabagi for his humility and continued commitment to promoting religious and communal harmony.
He described the event as a noble act that demonstrates Yabagi’s respect for family values and his recognition of the role of parents in shaping successful lives.
Speaking earlier, Ahmed Shehu Yabagi expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who attended the ceremony and supported the family during their period of mourning.
He described his late mother as a virtuous and compassionate woman who served God and humanity with sincerity, adding that her legacy will continue to inspire generations.
Prayers were also offered for peace, unity, and development in Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole.
Guests were later entertained as family, friends, and well-wishers reflected on the life and enduring legacy of the late Hajiya Maimuna Shehu.
