Kogi State Governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo has applauded a coordinated security operation that successfully dismantled armed bandit camps and rescued kidnapped victims, describing the mission as a “milestone in the fight for peace and security.”
The joint operation, involving the Nigerian Army alongside other federal security agencies and local security forces, targeted multiple bandit hideouts operating in forested corridors of Kogi State.
Several criminal encampments were destroyed during the offensive, significantly weakening the operational capabilities of the armed groups.
In the early hours of the mission, troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army intercepted armed bandits moving with abducted captives along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana corridor in Lokoja Local Government Area.
After a brief engagement, the insurgents dispersed, and at least one kidnapped victim was recovered in a distressed state before being transferred to safety and provided with medical care.
Governor Ododo lauded the swift response by the security agencies, emphasizing the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration under his administration’s security strategy.
“This operation highlights what can be achieved when state and federal security forces work in unity with the support of local communities,” he said, while reaffirming his government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and national security leadership for their support, urging residents to continue providing actionable intelligence to assist security efforts.
“Kogi State will not tolerate groups that threaten public safety or collaborate with criminal elements,” he warned.
Security officials confirmed that the operation is part of an ongoing campaign to flush out bandits and dismantle their facilities across Kogi communities, with similar coordinated offensives expected to continue until lasting peace is restored.
