A Fulani man has called on the Federal and Kogi State governments to urgently investigate the alleged daily inflow of Fulani people being dropped by helicopters in Obajana and Oshokoshoko communities in Lokoja Local Government Area.
In a viral video recorded in Hausa language, the man expressed concern over the growing presence of strangers claiming to be Fulani herders, saying the development could pose a serious security risk to residents of the affected areas.
According to him, helicopters have reportedly been sighted landing in isolated locations within the two communities, allegedly offloading groups of Fulani men and their belongings before flying off.
He said the strange movement has caused tension among locals, who now live in fear of possible attacks or clashes.
The man, who did not reveal his name for security reasons, stated that many of those being dropped appear unfamiliar to the known Fulani residents in the area.
“These people do not look like the Fulani we know. They are strangers, and no one knows where they are coming from or what their mission is,” he said.
He further alleged that the new arrivals have been moving in groups at night, setting up makeshift camps in bushes and uncompleted buildings around Obajana and Oshokoshoko.
He appealed to security agencies to act fast before the situation degenerates into a full-blown crisis.
Residents of the affected communities have also expressed worry, calling on government authorities to intensify surveillance and ensure that the safety of lives and property is not compromised.
Some community members who spoke off record said they have noticed unusual movements of unfamiliar faces in the past few weeks.
A youth leader from Obajana described the development as “strange and frightening,” adding that the community has already alerted local vigilante groups to monitor the situation closely.
He said the people are not against anyone settling in their area, but they demand transparency and proper documentation of new arrivals.
Meanwhile, traditional rulers in Lokoja Local Government Area have been urged to convene emergency meetings to address the growing concern and liaise with security agencies for immediate action.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Federal Government nor the Kogi State Government has issued an official statement on the alleged incident.
Security experts, however, have advised caution, urging the public not to spread panic until the claims are properly investigated.
They emphasized that with rising insecurity across the country, unverified reports could easily trigger tension if not handled carefully.
The experts further called for improved intelligence gathering, deployment of aerial surveillance, and coordination among security operatives to uncover the truth behind the alleged helicopter landings.
