Residents of Koton-Karfe in Kogi Local Government Area have expressed discontent over the way Shaibu Abdullahi Alkowel, former legislative aide to late Buba Jibril handle the uncomplited Ultra Modern General Hospital in Koto since the death of his boss six years ago.
They alleged that Abdullahi who has personalized the management of the hospital building has rented the building to some ladies who inturn use it as brothel and selling of illicit drugs.
They also alleged that the facility has been turned to social events center where marriage receptions are held.
The affected structure was one of the late Hon. Buba Jibril’s constituency projects in the area.
The residents claimed that Alkowel has refused to handover the keys for the building to the appropriate authority since the demise of his principal.
A resident, Alhaji Musa Salihu, in an interview, said he expected that the building should have been handled over to government by now, since it’s not an individual project.
“You can see that most of the facilities here are been removed. The building has been taken over by prostitutes and Okada Riders.
“We are calling on the security agents to arrest and investigate Alkowel who claimed to be the officer in charge of the building.
“We learnt he used the Ambulance for commercial purposes,” the resident explained.
But in an interview, Alkowel during the inspection of the facility by member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency, Hon. Sulaiman Danladi Aguye, Alkowel denied all the allegations saying that he never rented the premise out.
He said he removed all the televisions to avoid them been vandalized.
Alkowel said he reported to the police when some items were vandalized recently.
But in a dramatic turn, a police who never wanted his name in print said Alkowel never reported any case of vandalization to his station.
According to him, we are entering here for the first time; “how can the caretaker of this building personalized the affairs of government property. He must have failed to realize that the building belongs to the government.
“Well, when the case is officially reported to us, we know how to handle it,” the police assured.
Recall that the Ohimegye Igu of Koton-Karfe, Dr Saidu Akawu Salihu condemned the nonchalant attitude of people to government property and the continued misuse of state and national assets to achieve selfish gains.
The royal father said it was reported to him that certain individual in his domain has rented out the yet-to-be- commissioned Ultra Modern General Hospital, facilitated by late Hon. Buba Jibril as his constituency project to some ladies who now use the building for prostitution.
