The Madaki of Bassa-Nge and Executive Director of the Kogi State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (KOSOPADEC), Engr. Nda Usman Muhammed, has joined the people of Bassa-Nge in mourning the passing of their revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Dr. Abu Ali Mopa III.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, in Lokoja, Engr. Muhammed described the late Etsu as a father figure, visionary leader, and unifying force whose contributions to the welfare and development of the Bassa-Nge community were immeasurable.
“The death of HRM Alhaji Dr. Abu Ali Mopa III is a profound loss. His wisdom, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his people will forever be remembered. The values he instilled and the path he charted for the kingdom must continue to guide us,” the statement read.
He urged the people of Bassa-Nge to remain united during this period of mourning, stressing that the late Etsu’s legacy was a call for peace, harmony, and collective growth.
Engr. Muhammed also prayed for Allah’s mercy on the departed soul and for strength for the royal family to bear the loss.
The late Etsu Bassa-Nge passed away in Lokoja, and his body has since been moved to Gboloko in Bassa LGA ahead of traditional burial rites.
His demise has sparked an outpouring of grief across Kogi State, with community leaders, government officials, and citizens alike paying tribute to a leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the identity and progress of the Bassa-Nge people.
Residents describe HRM Alhaji Dr. Abu Ali Mopa III as a leader deeply connected to his people, a patron of education and culture, and a bridge-builder in times of social and communal tensions.
His guidance and mentorship extended beyond the kingdom, influencing leaders and youth across Kogi State.
Several community organizations and youth groups have already organized prayer sessions and remembrance events in his honor, emphasizing his role in fostering unity and development within Bassa-Nge.
His vision for infrastructural development, educational advancement, and social welfare projects is widely cited as part of his enduring legacy.
Government officials in Kogi State, including local government chairmen and traditional rulers, have also sent messages of condolence to the royal family, praising the late Etsu’s humility, accessibility, and commitment to public service.
Many highlighted that his reign was marked by efforts to promote peace among neighboring communities, as well as initiatives that empowered women and youth in the kingdom.
As the kingdom prepares for the traditional burial rites, residents are reflecting on the late monarch’s life, celebrating his achievements, and pledging to carry forward his vision.
