The political atmosphere within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency has become increasingly tense following the unexpected resignation of Hon. Sulaiman Baba-Ali as Leader of the party in the constituency.
Hon. Baba-Ali, a respected party stalwart and the Gabi Sayadi of Lokoja, had long been considered a stabilizing force whose leadership united competing interests within the APC.
His resignation is now being described by stakeholders as a development with dangerous implications for the ruling party’s cohesion and future electoral strength.
Multiple internal sources warn that Baba-Ali’s departure may deepen factional crises, create a leadership vacuum, weaken grassroots mobilization, and embolden opposition forces preparing for upcoming political battles.
A senior party stakeholder who spoke anonymously expressed serious concern over the consequences of the resignation.
“This resignation is dangerous for APC in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency. Hon. Baba-Ali was the bridge keeping the party together. Many loyalists are unsettled, and if care is not taken, the party may face serious internal conflict.”
Another party stakeholder who also preferred not to be named blamed the development on what he described as the growing frustration within the party over the alleged overbearing influence of former Governor Yahaya Bello.
“People are fed up with the party because of the dictatorial attitude of the former governor, Yahaya Bello. He controls the affairs of the party and the state. He makes all appointments. How can the party survive like this?” he queried.
According to him, the increasing dissatisfaction among members may lead to mass resignations and further weaken the party’s structure in the constituency if urgent corrective steps are not taken.
Political observers say the APC must act fast to restore confidence, reconcile aggrieved factions, and prevent what could become a major crisis.
As of the time of filing this report, party leadership has yet to issue an official statement addressing the circumstances surrounding Baba-Ali’s resignation or outlining steps to stabilize the party.
The coming days are expected to determine whether the APC in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency can withstand the shock or slide into deeper instability.
