The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to participate fully in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The resolution was reached at an enlarged meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) and key stakeholders held at the party secretariat on Monday, where leaders reviewed the party’s preparedness for the polls and the general political situation in the state.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, said the decision to contest the local government polls was unanimous, stressing that the party remains strong, focused and determined to reclaim its influence at the grassroots level.
Hon. Gambo disclosed that the party had constituted reconciliation committees to address internal grievances and reunite aggrieved members ahead of the elections.
According to him, the committees have been mandated to engage stakeholders across the 21 local government areas to resolve disputes arising from past congresses and other internal challenges.
He emphasized that unity is critical to the party’s success, urging members to close ranks, eschew rancour and work collectively in the overall interest of the PDP.
The PDP chairman further noted that the party would soon roll out its guidelines and timetable for the local government elections, assuring members that the process of selecting candidates would be transparent, inclusive and in line with the party’s constitution.
He added that the party is committed to presenting credible candidates with proven integrity and capacity to deliver people-oriented governance at the local government level.
Hon. Gambo also called on party leaders and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation, saying the PDP is determined to reconnect with the people and address their concerns through effective local governance.
He urged security agencies and the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to uphold professionalism and neutrality before, during and after the polls, noting that credible elections are essential for strengthening democracy.
The meeting was attended by members of the State Executive Committee, local government party chairmen, women and youth leaders, as well as other critical stakeholders from across the state.
