Residents of Lokoja GRA have sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to intervene in the illegal sale of Police Post built by former governor of the state, Ibrahim Idris for the community to a politician.
The said property, according to the residents, who protested on Tuesday was sold to a top government official (name withheld) by the immediate past Director General, Bureau of Lands and Urban Development, Alhaji Nazir Ochi who immediately demolished the structure and started building on the site.
The protesting residents, who raised the alarm recounted a history of the perpetual invasion of government lands in the area by Ochi when he was the DG Lands.
They recalled that the land was allocated to the Police by the former governor of the state, Ibrahim Idris on their request.
They said; “We requested for the land to build a police post as we noticed criminal activities in the area. The former governor then allocated the land to the police.
“When the building of the police post was completed, policemen were posted. The served the whole of this community. We woke up one morning and saw that the building was demolished and only to see someone developing the land.
“When we conducted our investigation, we discovered the land was sold to the developer by the former DG Bureau of Lands and Urban Development, Alhaji Nazir Ochi. We wrote series of protest letters to concerned authorities to no avail.
Meanwhile, when Nationalwatch Tv crew visited the site, a resident who never want his name mentioned told this reporter that yesterday, policemen stormed the site, arrested some workers and stop the work on the site.
Recall that Nationalwatch Tv reported how some government lands in Lokoja were sold to top politicians in the state by the the former DG Bureau of Lands and Urban Development.
