Outrage has once again trailed political appointments in Kogi State following a viral video by Musa Bashir Muhammad, a concerned resident, who appealed to Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to reconsider what he described as lopsided appointments in the state government.
In the video, Muhammad lamented that key positions appear concentrated in certain areas, leaving residents of Kogi East and West feeling marginalized.
He warned that failure to address the imbalance could fuel unrest and deepen divisions in the state.
“The people of Kogi and West deserve fair representation. Appointments should reflect the diversity of our state, not favour one region over others. Our unity is being tested, and it is time our leaders act wisely,” he said.
The video has generated massive attention on social media, drawing reactions from residents, political commentators, and civil society groups.
Many expressed support for Muhammad’s appeal, highlighting perceived exclusion from strategic positions in ministries, agencies, and boards.
Residents of Kogi East, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “We feel overlooked. Talented sons and daughters of our district are being ignored in appointments. This is unfair.”
Similarly, Kogi West residents noted the continued marginalisation of their district in state appointments, while they warned that neglecting their region could trigger unrest if corrective measures were not taken.
The viral clip has dominated social media discussions, trending with hashtags such as #KogiEquity, #FairAppointments, and #KogiUnity.
Analysts say the video highlights the importance of equitable governance in a state with diverse ethnic and regional interests.
“Equitable appointments are crucial for sustaining peace and unity. When one area dominates strategic positions, it generates resentment, which could undermine governance,” said Dr. Habibu Salihu, a political analyst.
Governor Ododo has yet to respond publicly to the viral appeal.
Observers, however, say a timely and transparent reply could help calm tensions and reassure residents that their concerns are being addressed.
As discussions continue online and among civil society groups, the viral video by Muhammad has reignited calls for fairness and inclusivity in political appointments across Kogi State.
