Afemai Progressives Union Kogi State Chapter Holds Vibrant End-of-Year Celebration

The Kogi State Chapter of the Afemai Progressives Union (APU) brought together sons and daughters of the Afemai community on Sunday for a lively end-of-year celebration at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Hall, Lokoja.

The gathering highlighted unity, cultural pride, and community progress, featuring goodwill messages, cultural displays, and renewed commitments to peace and development.

The union, chaired by veteran journalist and publisher of The Nigerian Post Newspaper, Mr. Mike Abu, attracted Afemai members from Lokoja and neighbouring communities.

The occasion was chaired by the Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Danladi Muhammad Faruq Yahaya, who also represented Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The celebration was further graced by the Onogie of Afemai, Alhaji Zakari Dangana, while the Maigari of Lokoja was represented by the Hakimi of Ward D, Alhaji Isah Baba Nasidi.

Engr. Danladi Muhammad Faruq Yahaya assured the gathering of the state government’s support, emphasizing Governor Ododo’s commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of the Afemai community.

In his goodwill message, Alhaji Isah Baba Nasidi urged members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant security agencies, while conveying the royal father’s warm wishes for a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Kogi State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Gambo, commended the union for fostering unity and peaceful coexistence in Lokoja, encouraging members to continue their efforts toward community development.

Earlier, the Onogie of Afemai, Alhaji Zakari Dangana, praised the leadership of the union for promoting harmony among the Afemai people and urged members to uphold their cultural values.

In his address, Mr. Mike Abu described the gathering as an opportunity to review the union’s achievements over the past year and strengthen bonds of brotherhood.

He highlighted notable successes in members’ welfare, dispute resolution, and cultural promotion, while pledging to intensify efforts in the coming year to support vulnerable members, promote unity, and contribute to community development initiatives.

The event concluded with prayers, cultural displays, and social interactions, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of commitment to unity, peace, and progress among the Afemai people in Kogi State.
