19-year-old Peter Opeyemi, a student of Federal University Lokoja was involved in a horrific accident that later saw him having a partial spinal cord injury.
An official of Grand Specialist Hospital in Felele, Lokoja were he was admitted told National Watch Tv, on Monday that Opeyemi is overstaying his admission at the hospital as he is unable to pay the remaining balance of N390 hospital bill that will enable the hospital commence his treatment.
It was gathered that since he was admitted at the hospital in February, he had only paid a deposit of N60,000.
Opeyemi is seeking help from kind-hearted people to help him settle his hospital bills as he continues to struggle with the reality of his present predicament.
When contacted, Mallam Mohammed Abubakar aka (Chukwuemeka), founder of MOHAB People’s Care Foundation said, “Opeyemi’s story was once narrated by a student of Federal University Lokoja to me how one of his course mate usually wear one shirt everyday and trek a long distance to school while they board taxi.
“The student also said Opeyemi find it difficult to feed and how they rendered help sometimes by lapping him in a taxi while going or coming back from school after lectures. On hearing the story I felt for the young man.
“Just yesterday, someone called our attention to Opeyemi’s unfortunate situation. How he from a cashew tree and had his back injured, which has affected a partial part of his spinal cord. But according to the doctor handling his case, he will survive it since he is still young.
“After the domestic accident, Opeyemi decided to stay with his mother’s sister in Lokoja despite that things are not too okay for her as well but he insisted he will manage. All he needed was a shelter where he can lay his head after school since he can not afford rent. Opeyemi is determined to go to school by all means, his wish is to be a graduate, get a good job and help his parent out of poverty according to the student.
“The student further lamented that he had nothing to eat that day and he needed strength to trek back home, so he decided to climb a cashew tree by the bush on his way home, so he fell off.
“He was there till the next day before a man who went into the bush to ease himself found him helplessly on the ground and took him to the Aunt’s. house”, Abubakar explained.
As at the time of filing this report, even scanning has not been carried out on him since 15 days ago that he had the accident due to financial challenges.
According to our findings, Opeyemi’s parent were asked to deposit the sum of 400,000 naira before the commencement of the treatment but they were only able to make a deposit of N60,000.
