The family and friends of Alhaji Abdulkarim Umar, on Friday paid an appreciation visit to the Maigari of Lokoja, Dr Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, over the appointment of Umar as the new Garkuwan Matasan Lokoja.
The delegation, which was led by the Hakimi of Ward ‘E’, Yahaya Abdukadir, was in the Maigari’s palace to express immense gratitude to the Traditional Council for the singular honor done to Umar.
Members of the delegation who were warmly received at the palace include elders, women and youths from Kabawa street, Lokoja.
The new title holder is an astute businessman and a philanthropist.
Speaking during the visit, Tanimu Maisunanmallam, lauded the Traditional Council for considering Abdulkarim Umar worthy of the appointment.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of the family and friends for the appointment.
Responding, the Monarch said the title was conferred on Umar based on merit and for his commitment to rendering philanthropic services to the community.
He urged the appointee to be a good ambassador of the Lokoja Traditional Council wherever he is, and always engage in activities designed to move the area forward.
Maisunanmallam described the appointment as a well deserved one, saying Umar is a man with impeccable character, who would contribute his own quota towards the development of the traditional council.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after the visit, the newly appointed traditional title holder expressed his gratitude to the Maigari for the honour.
He pledged to leverage his experience to drive the chiefdom’s development.
He added, “We need to ensure peace is sustained in Lokoja Chiefdom because we have been living in peace with one another for decades.”
