By Chief Asaje
Dear Comrade Jesse Abayomi
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
As an elder statesman from Yagba Federal Constituency, I Chief Richard Asaja is pleased to inform you that Hon Leke Abejide’s 3rd term bid is all about the interest of the general populace in our Constituency and not the opinion of few selected individuals.
Considering what you wrote to Hon Leke Abejide. The content of your letter deal with some serious issues.
In my understanding, the whole issue on ground is not about Leke’ prior promises but to have a principal officer in the House of Representatives. This move must not be perceived as a significant betrayal and turned in a clash with Leke Abejide over ideological differences.
Politics, sometimes is a bully game.
To me, even if people should talk, is shouldn’t be you, because I know what Leke did to support you to contest for House of Assembly member in Mopamuro LG, based on mutual understanding between you and few others.
As a matter of fact, we in Yagba West are not signatory to any agreement with Leke Abejide not to contest for 3rd term, because is happening everywhere and obvious.Leke’s case ought not be faltered under the combined weight of internal betrayal and external critics..
From observation, indeed, the 2027 elections is laced with stories of betrayals, mostly by alleged political allies/children of Leke Abejide.
As it was difficult to discern the inner minds of a man from the conjecture on the face, so it was for Leke to ascertain the true intentions of some Leke’s political son’s. Anyway, controversy has always been inseparable from politics and politicking .. Treachery and betrayals are proving to be alter egos in the politics of the day.
As a right minded and decent citizens, power rotation would strengthen the bold of brotherhood in our constituency.. But the present cut-throat rivalry and campaign of calumny is not encouraging and we must place partisan politics on the shelf at the moment. Dialoguing and considering future benefits and reward matters a lot..We appealed to those aspiring to avoid politics of bitterness or the prosecution of what they called self agenda or greed.
All those seeking the entrenchment of the rotational clause either in the constitution of the country or that of the previous agreement, such a clause will only breed mediocrity which will subsequently lead to the collapse of democracy.
In my view, let every Nigerian who feels he or she has what it takes be allowed to contest any election. Those who dwell on the issue of rotation are people who are not sure of themselves , people who want electoral contests to be zeroed to their backyard so that they can coast to victory without sweat.
To me , politics is a game where everyone puts his or her cards on the table..lt is not played out of sentiment.. For the best to emerged, he contended that every one who thinks he or she is qualified should be allowed to enter the ring for the voters to make a choice.
Asaja emphasized that politics should not be reduced to such a reduction level. Pedigree, competence, resourcefulness, and capability should be major consideration.
Agreement or no agreement with the majority as stated in your letter, one is not just saying this because we want Hon Leke Abejide back in the House of Representatives, the young man has paid his dues.
He has touched the lives of the people in more concrete terms, can those agitating do more than he has done?
I will urge you not to hide behind one finger hiding under the guise of rotation to want to win the hearts of the people.. Politics, l insists is not about sympathy but what a candidate can offer.
However, in all this arrangement, leave it for others to do because your character will make Leke not to believe in anybody again, because it as happened before.. You are a boy l like and you are very very intelligent,l won’t like it to come from you..l can emphatically say how much he spent to sponsored your House of Assembly project, just you agree to support him.. Please don’t betrayed the confidence Leke have in you..Think about it.. Betraying one’s political leader create a perception of unreliability and bridge of trust.
And I know and believe Leke will learn.
By the way, who tells you that even Leke contest or did not contest, Mopamuro will be there? Who tells you that Yagba East can not contest? We know those who have been enjoying such and performing excellently. Infact, our people still rally round them.
Those behind Anti- Leke ambition, let them continue to talk but should remembered that politics is a game of numbers.. And if anybody should talk, it should be shola Ojo.
I will advise you as a son and a true father, sub-pedder .. Politics is a game that if you don’t get it today, you have it another.. Leke wasn’t the first House of Representatives in Yagba land and will not be last.
Someday, it might be the turn of Mopamuro to seek re-election particularly if the zoning arrangement ends with them.
What Hon Leke Abejide is doing is not out of selfish desire. As a matter of fact, pressure was put on him to run.. You may want to ask why the pressure? The young man has done excellently well so people naturally feel that if he is allowed to go for third term, he will not hold any good back for his people and we can have a principal officer in the House of Representatives.
Any father will be too willing to send a good son on errands as many times as he can , knowing that he will not be disappointed particularly a justifiable and popular course.
My advice to those who are developing hypertension about his re-election bid come 2027 to take it easy.
His acceptability cut across ages, sexes and regional allegiance.. lt is gathered that even in Mopamuro , he has his teeming supporters who see him as a democratic to the core, a performer and an excellent representative. With him they cannot desire anything less.
The pain of Yagba land is Leke’s pain. He is a worthy son.
Finally, those who believe they have a genuine case that Yagba Federal Constituency seat , 2027 belongs to a particular local government area in Yagbaland should lay the evidence before the public rather than weeping sentiments.
The issue of the House of Representatives slot in Yagbaland could be anybody’s turn (local government area) in 2027.. There should be a level playing ground for all, there will be no preferential treatment.
I rest my case and I come in peace.
Best regards,
Chief Richard Asaje, National Coordinator, “Like Minds Alliance Pressure Group”.
