Despite the jubilation by Civil Servants in Kogi State of prompt payment of salaries by the present administration of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo, a section of some of the workers are however not happy and have made a passionate appeal to the governor to look into their plight.
According to some staff of the Kogi State Transport Management Agency, KOTRAMA, who would not want their names mentioned, said that they are still paid N10,000 as salaries per month despite the huge revenue they generate monthly.
Similarly some workers in some tertiary institutions and some Agencies in the State said while all workers at the State and Local Government now enjoy 100% salaries in the State, they lamented that they are however still earning between 80- 85% as salaries.
They also appealed to Gov. Ododo to come to their aid.
Recalled that since the assumption of office of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo in January, he has without mincing words changed the narratives.
The Governor has kept to his campaign promise of revitalization of the civil service, with improve and regular payment of salaries.
From delayed payment of salaries in the State Civil Service, it is now like a law that since his assumption of office, salaries has not exceeded the 24th of every month.
Infact, with the payment of the recent December salaries, the State Governor scored another first with the payment of salaries on the 14th of the month.
But this excitement and achievement in the regular payment of salaries is not felt by staff of KOTRAMA.
Efforts to speak with the General Manager of the agency on the plight of the workers was unsuccessful as he could not be reached.
Recalled that the staff at one time were asked to leave the road following a court ruling. Upon recall, they were asked to keep 20% of their earnings for the payment of salaries, making the staff go home with N10,000.
Recently unconfirmed report however said the new management got an approval to retain 50% of their earnings, yet, the staff are still paid N10000.
This has made the Staff to make a passionate plea to look into their plight. They recalled how Gov. Ododo absorbed staff of the state vigilant group into the State service and other staff of other agencies and today they are enjoying N72,000 minimum wage.
They called on Gov. Ododo to beam his searchlight as some of his lieutenant as they may end up rubbishing his good reputation and intentions.
