Dignitaries from all walks of life trooped out on Monday to celebrate with The Nigerian Post newspaper as it held a public Lecture and Gold Prize Award to mark the 33 years anniversary of Kogi State creation.
The theme for this year’s public lecture is: “Sustaining Kogi’s Unbroken Unity – Prospects & Possibilities, This House Must Not Fall”.
The lecture, held at the Edge Drive Hotel, Lokoja, was delivered by Professor John Alabi, who spoke on the theme: ‘This House Must Not Fall’.
It was graced by government officials, media executives, captains of industries, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, present and former employees of the newspaper, among others.
In attendance were the Ohimegy-Igu of Koton-Karfe, Dr Saidu Akawu Salihu, Prof. Stephen Ikani Ocheni, former Minister of State Labour and Employment, Comrade Ademu Seidu, Chairman, Kogi State NUJ, former speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mathew, Kolawole, former chairman Lokoja LGA, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya Faruq Danladi, member representing Lokoja 1 State Constituency, Hon. Shehu Tijjani Rbaiya, top management staff and members of the company’s board.
In his welcome address, publisher of the The Nigerian Post, Abu Michael, noted that; “we are grateful to all our long-standing partners and audiences for the journey so far.”
According to him, the title of the lecture is not just a theme, it’s a call for unity.
He added, “As the most widely-read newspaper in the state, The Nigerian Post has not only been a witness to history but a key player in shaping narratives.
“We hope that the impact of our journey will serve as a source of inspiration to all. We have weathered storms, stood against oppression, and championed the cause of justice, and yet we remain unbowed and unbroken.
Michael expressed the company’s “deepest gratitude to all our friends who have stood by us over the years.”
He said, “Your support has been invaluable, and it is your belief in our mission that propels us forward.
Speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Stephen Ikani Ocheni, who was represented by the former chairman, Kogi State NUJ, Alhaji Ali Atabor, said over the past ten years The Nigerian Post had been a stalwart in journalism, embodying the spirit of integrity and fairness.
He also noted that in an era where the media landscape was constantly evolving, The Nigerian Post had consistently adapted, remaining a beacon of reliable information.
He commended the newspaper publisher for constantly marking Kogi State anniversary.
