There was an unprecedented crowd and jubilation at the Kogi State Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lokoja on Wednesday as Alhaji Idris Abdulrahman Sofada picked expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for the October 19 local government Chairmanship election in Lokoja LGA.
The party secretariat witnessed a massive gathering of supporters, including members of the local government SDP working committee, political associates, families, youths and women, who sang, drummed and danced to celebrate the historic event.
An obviously elated Sofada and the first SDP local government Chairmanship aspirant in the area to buy the forms, told reporters that he has what it takes to win the election for SDP because of his pedigree, political experience and closeness with the grassroots.
He explained that he has contributed immensely to the growth of SDP in the state, and expressed confidence that if given the party’s ticket for the forthcoming local government Chairmanship poll, he will win the election.
According to him, “As a democratic party, we must imbibe justice, equity and fairness; that is what makes us a truly democratic party. I strongly believe that our party as a democratic party and electorate will consider my candidature because I have what it takes to lead the LGA.”
The SDP Chairmanship aspirant assured the citizens of the area that he would run an all-inclusive government if elected as the Chairman of Lokoja LGA in the forthcoming election.
On his part, leader of SDP in Lokoja LGA Alhaji Gambo Umar Bala described Sofada as a simple, accessible, tested and trusted politician who has distinguished himself among his equals and urged him to employ his wealth of knowledge in his leadership for the good and overall development of the council.
The SDP leader who advocated that equity, justice and fairness be maintained as regards to Chairmanship and Councilorship primary election, thanked the party members for their support during the last governorship election.
He called on voters in the area to vote massively for all SDP candidates in the forthcoming election.
Lending his voice, a cheiftain of the SDP in Lokoja local government area, Alhaji Sulaiman Aliyu called on Lokoja LGA people to give their necessary supports to the SDP Chairmanship candidate, Idris Sofada, whom he described as man of good will and detribalized politician who has invested much on the people when he was a civil servant.
He advised all and sundry to queue behind him to enable him win.
