The Ohimegye Igu of Koton-Karfe and Chairman Lokoja/Kogi Local Government Area Traditional Council, Alhaji (Dr.) Saidu Akawu Salihu, has condemned the nonchalant attitude of people to government property and the continued misuse of state and national assets to achieve selfish gains.
He said government was spending huge funds to fix infrastructural facilities such as roads, schools and hospitals which hardly lasted a year before they get damaged by people through abuse.
Ohimegye-Igu, a foremost traditional ruler in Kogi State, handed down the warning yesterday in his palace when Hon. Sulaiman Danladi Aguye, member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency paid him a courtesy visit.
He said it was reported to him that certain individual in his domain has rented out the yet to be commissioned Ultra Modern General Hospital, facilitated by late Hon. Buba Jibril as his constituency project to some ladies who now use the building for prostitution.
He said; “I was also told that the Ambulance donated to the hospital is also been used for commercial purposes.
The royal father who narrated the ordeal to his guest, warned individuals and communities to stop misusing government utilities in their communities.
The mornarch who praised late Jibril for his contribution to the Kingdom, expressed shock that certain individuals could allow their greed and ill-will to supplant the overall interest of their community.
He therefore warned that anybody in his domain who allows government property or items donated by individuals to be destroyed or sold, should be ready to face the wrath of the law.
He advised that the Ultra Modern General Hospital be officially handed over to the local government council with immediate effect.
Explaining his mission for the visit, Aguye said he was in the palace to seek royal blessings before he continue his inspection of late Buba Jibril’s constituency projects abandoned by some contractors in the LGA.
He told the traditional ruler that he had just concluded on-the-sport assessment of some of the abandoned projects in Lokoja LGA.
The lawmaker who promised to complete the projects appealled to the Ohimegye-Igu to advise his subjects to always make proper use of government properties in their communities.
Aguye was accompanied to the palace by the Lokoja local government APC Chairman, Alhaji Maikudi Bature, some party and community leaders.
