The Lokoja Local Government Area Transition Committee Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, Tuesday  ordered for the demolition of an uncomplicated building in Lokoja metropolis suspected to be a hideout of criminally minded people.

The building situated at Old Market, in the city of Lokoja was on Tuesday afternoon pulled down by the local government Vigilante group.

The building which poses as security threat to the residents was believed to be a dent of hardened criminals selling illicit drugs.

Following a tip-off by the Vigilante group, a big sack loaded with Indian hemp was discovered in the uncompleted building, in addition to some youths caught smoking Indian hemp.

Led by Yusuf Muhammed Bala, the SA Security to the LG Chairman, the demolition exercise was hailed by residents of the area who earlier reported to security operatives about the suspected building, being described as a distribution point of criminality.

The Vigilante group has hitherto thoroughly combed the building following reports to them by residents of the area of suspected foul play, as the building is used by some miscreants for criminal activities.

Is his remarks at the scene, the Hakimi of Ward ‘D’, Alhaji Isa Baba Nasidi, called on every citizen to be extra-vigilant and mindful of suspicious persons around their vicinities to ensure that any suspected person moving within, be quickly inform the security forces or government through appropriate channels.

According to him, the building demolition would serve as deterrent for those who wish to engage in acts of criminality of this scale so as to continue to keep the peace and ensure that citizens sleep with their eyes closed.

Residents of the area commended the local government chairman for the bold steps he been taken to eliminate criminal elements in the area.

They prayed Allah to continue to protect him in the discharge of his duties and pledged their support for his administration.
