The ancient city of Lokoja the Kogi State capital literally stood still on Friday as the remains of the General Manager Corporate Affairs, National Inland Waterways Authority NIWA, Alhaji Jibril Dar’dau, were buried amidst wailing and crying.
The Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Lokoja, where prayers were held for the late Islamic leader, was thronged by eminent personalities from across the country, representatives of NIWA, politicians, religious leaders, community leaders and the ordinary folks.
Some of the people who thronged the Institute to pay their last respect to late Dar’dau could not hold back their tears, as his corpse was moved away for burial after the funeral prayer.
The Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, performed the funeral prayer shortly after the Jummat prayer.
In his sermon, Shirkh Shaban described Dar’dau as a man loved by all during his life time.
“He served the poor and helped the rich.
“He came to serve humanity and served them to his very last.
Shirkh Shaban who noted that death is inevitable for all humans, urged family members not to fight anyone over Dar’dau’s death.
He said that the vacuum created by the death of Dar’dau would be hard to fill.
“There are so many rich people in Nigeria, and particularly in Kogi State, but not all of them have the philanthropic spirit as Alhaji Dar’dau.
“He was generous to a fault and he lived a purposeful life.” the Chief Imam stressed.
Dar’dau, age 52, died on Friday morning following a brief illness.
Until his death he was the National Inland Waterways Authority NIWA General Manager Corporate Affairs.
