The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be forced to ring some changes in the leadership and composition of the State’s Ramadan Feeding Committee.
The Feeding Committee largely comprising officials from the Kano State Ministry of Special Duties and Poverty Alleviation and Religious Matters is charged with the responsibility of driving the State Government free Ramadan feeding of mostly the less privileged, within the state’s eight metropolitan councils and 36 others.
The State had earlier earmarked the sum of about N5 billion for the programme expected to cushion the effects of the current harsh economic situation on no fewer than five million fasting Muslim faithful.
But on an unscheduled visit to one of the designated feeding centres in Gidan Maza area of Kano Municipal Council on Friday, March, 22, 2024, Governor Yusuf was shocked by both the abysmally poor quality of the food being served, and untidy nature of its dispensation.
The unscheduled visit which was largely prompted by credible intelligence suggesting both lack of transparency and other alleged under hand dealings by officials of the feeding committee, afforded the Governor the opportunity of confirming what he had earlier been informed.
Governor Yusuf, according to a statement issued by his Media aide, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, warned that he will not hesitate to deal with any officials found to be short changing the primary targets of the interventionist programme- the poor and vulnerable.
“We will not accept dishonesty and mismanagement of public resources . It is imperative to note that the allocated funds for this initiative are meticulously documented at each centre” Governor Yusuf noted.
