The Lokoja Local Government Branch of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) has marked the first anniversary of its leadership under Comrade Abdulrahman Abubakar, popularly known as Baba Sauti, with a fundraising campaign for the construction of a permanent secretariat for the union in Lokoja.
The anniversary celebration brought together members of the union, stakeholders, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the achievements recorded by the leadership during its first year in office and rally support for the proposed secretariat.
In his welcome address, the MOUN Secretary-General, Comrade John Daniel, reeled out some of the achievements recorded by the union under the current leadership.
He listed the achievements to include appointments of members, upgrading of the union’s office, assisting members to acquire motorcycles, women empowerment initiatives and support for families of deceased members, among others.
Comrade Daniel said the leadership had remained committed to improving the welfare of members and strengthening the union since assuming office.
He appealed to the government to extend more assistance and support to the union, stressing that such support would help improve the welfare of motorcycle operators.
The Secretary-General also thanked all members, stakeholders, friends and well-wishers who graced the occasion, describing their presence as a demonstration of solidarity and support for the union.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Danladi Yahaya Faruq, commended the motorcycle operators for being law-abiding and urged them to sustain peaceful and responsible conduct.
He also called on the riders to continue promoting the programmes and policies of the Kogi State Government.
Speaking at the event, the Kogi State Chairman of MOUN, Comrade Abdullahi Ovoro, commended the Lokoja branch for its achievements and commitment to the welfare of members.
Ovoro called on the Kogi State Government to provide more assistance to the union, stressing that government support would further strengthen the organisation and improve the welfare of motorcycle operators across the state.
Speaking at the event, MOUN Lokoja Local Government Chairman, Comrade Abdulrahman Abubakar, popularly known as Baba Sauti, expressed appreciation to members for their support and cooperation throughout his first year in office.
He described the anniversary as a significant milestone in the development of MOUN in Lokoja Local Government and said the proposed secretariat would provide a permanent administrative structure for the union.
He appealed to individuals, organisations, government agencies and other well-meaning members of the public to support the fundraising initiative.
The highlight of the occasion was the fundraising session for the construction of the proposed MOUN Lokoja Chapter secretariat, which attracted donations and pledges from members, stakeholders, friends and other well-wishers.
The occasion also featured the presentation of awards to deserving members in recognition of their contributions, commitment and dedication to the growth and development of the union.
The project, when completed, is expected to provide a permanent administrative base for the union and enhance the coordination of its activities and welfare programmes.
