The Osun State Police Command has arrested a serving member of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Abiola Ibrahim Inaolaji, alongside 146 suspected electoral mercenaries allegedly camped at his residence in Ikire.
The lawmaker, who represents the Irewole/Isokan State Constituency, was reportedly arrested during a targeted police operation on Friday night.
Police authorities also reportedly recovered more than 200 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from the premises.
A circulating video clip shows the lawmaker identifying himself and allegedly making a preliminary statement in which he admitted facilitating the movement of the 146 suspects into Osun State from neighbouring states to participate in the election.
The arrest comes amid heightened security operations ahead of the Osun governorship election, as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent activities capable of undermining the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.
The suspects are expected to undergo further investigation as authorities determine their alleged roles and the circumstances surrounding the possession of the PVCs.
The police have yet to publicly disclose the identities of the 146 suspects or provide further details on the next steps in the investigation.
