His Royal Majesty, Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, the Ohimegye Igu Koton Karfe, has directed that the proposed coronation of the Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja be put on hold with immediate effect.
The decision follows consultations with government officials, traditional rulers, and stakeholders of the Egbura Miyakani community at a meeting convened to discuss the planned installation.
The meeting was attended by the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Hon. Engineer Chief Bashir Gegu; the Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission; Permanent Secretaries of relevant ministries; the Chairman of Kogi Local Government Area; as well as traditional rulers and community leaders.
In his remarks, the Ohimegye said the decision was taken in the interest of peace, unity, and the preservation of the rich cultural heritage of the Egbura nation.
He urged all Egbura Miyakani sons and daughters in Lokoja to remain calm and to adhere strictly to established traditional procedures for the selection and installation of the Ohinoyi.
The monarch emphasized that due process remains essential in ensuring that the choice of the Ohinoyi reflects the collective will of the Egbura Miyakani people while preserving the dignity and integrity of the stool.
The development comes after the Lokoja Traditional Council earlier called for the suspension of the planned coronation, citing the need for adherence to recognized traditional processes and consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Reaffirming his commitment to the unity and progress of the Egbura people, the Ohimegye called on all concerned parties to support efforts aimed at ensuring harmony and respect for tradition while the necessary procedures are observed.
