The Kogi State Council of Ulama’u has congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the commencement of the Islamic New Year 1448AH, urging Muslims across the state to remain steadfast in faith, unity, and prayers for peace and progress.
In a press statement signed by the Secretary General of the Council, Alhaji Idris Baba’Ango, the religious body thanked Allah for granting Muslims the opportunity to witness the dawn of another Islamic year and prayed for divine blessings throughout the year.
The Council commended the spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence among Muslims and non-Muslims in Kogi State, describing harmony as a vital ingredient for sustainable development and social stability.
According to the statement, Muslims should use the occasion to reflect on the numerous challenges confronting humanity and renew their commitment to faith, righteousness, and obedience to Allah.
The Council also urged Muslims celebrating the Islamic New Year to remain law-abiding and called on Imams, Islamic scholars, and its branches across the 21 local government areas of Kogi State to offer special prayers for Allah’s intervention in the prevailing economic difficulties and global challenges facing the Ummah.
The religious body further applauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his sustained support for religious organizations in the state and prayed for Allah’s continued guidance, protection, and wisdom upon the governor.
As part of activities marking the Islamic New Year, the Council invited members of the Muslim Ummah and the general public to attend a grand celebration scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Council expressed optimism that the new Islamic year would usher in peace, unity, prosperity, and spiritual renewal for Muslims and all residents of Kogi State.
