The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has visited the kidnappers’ hideout in Lakoun, along the Ayegun-Olojuoro Road in Ibadan, where the sister of the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her children were held captive following their abduction.
The visit came on the heels of a successful police operation that led to the rescue of the victims and the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle with security operatives.
During the inspection of the hideout, CP Olugbenga commended the officers and tactical teams involved in the operation, describing their efforts as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He said the rescue was achieved through intelligence-led policing, strategic deployment of personnel and effective collaboration among security agencies.
The police commissioner reiterated the resolve of the Oyo State Police Command to sustain the crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes, warning criminal elements to steer clear of the state or face the full weight of the law.
According to him, investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who may have escaped during the operation.
The abduction of the minister’s sister and her children had generated widespread concern among residents and prompted calls for intensified security measures in the state.
Their rescue, however, has been welcomed by residents as a major success in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and criminality in Oyo State.
CP Olugbenga urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies, stressing that community support remains vital to efforts aimed at improving security and maintaining peace across the state.
