The Maigari of Lokoja, Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, on Saturday turbanned three traditional title holders as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The ceremony, held at the Maigari’s Palace, attracted a large gathering of traditional rulers, government officials, politicians, Islamic clerics, traders, and other prominent members of the community.
Those honoured with traditional titles included Odiyani Anebire, Alhaji Abdulkareem Salawu, the Lafurma of Lokoja; Alhaji Ibrahim Yabagi Maikeke; and Wakiliyan Sarkin Gwari, Hajiya Nnadama Amorley.
Speaking during the event, the Maigari congratulated the newly turbanned title holders and charged them to remain committed to the service of the Lokoja Kingdom and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage.
He described the conferment of the titles as recognition of the recipients’ contributions to the growth, peace, and development of the kingdom, urging them to continue to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Among dignitaries present at the occasion were the Chairman of the Lokoja Local Government Council, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu; the Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engineer Yahaya Mohammed Danladi Farouk; top politicians, government officials, Islamic clerics, traders, and community leaders.
In their separate remarks, Odiyani Anebire and the Lafurma of Lokoja expressed gratitude to the Maigari for the honour and pledged to uphold the traditions, values, and responsibilities associated with their titles.
They assured the royal father of their continued support for the development, peace, and unity of Lokoja Kingdom.
The highlight of the occasion was a colourful cultural dance performance that entertained guests and added glamour to the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
The display showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Lokoja people and drew applause from attendees.
