Former President Goodluck Jonathan has responded to growing calls urging him to contest in the forthcoming elections, saying he will make a decision soon.
Jonathan made the remark while addressing supporters and political stakeholders who have continued to mount pressure on him to return to active politics.
According to him, consultations are ongoing and he will announce his position at the appropriate time.
“I have heard the calls from Nigerians and supporters across the country. I will decide soon,” the former president stated.
The statement has further fueled speculations about Jonathan’s possible return to the political scene, as several groups and stakeholders have recently endorsed him for higher political office.
Supporters at the gathering described Jonathan as a leader with experience, national appeal and a track record of promoting peace and democratic stability during his administration.
They urged him to heed the calls of Nigerians who believe he can contribute to national development.
Some political groups also argued that the country requires experienced leadership capable of addressing economic challenges, insecurity and national unity, insisting that Jonathan remains a strong political figure with widespread acceptance across different regions.
Although the former president did not officially declare his intention to contest, political analysts say his latest comment has renewed conversations within the political space ahead of the next general elections.
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, has remained active in diplomatic and peace-building engagements across Africa since leaving office.
