Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reassured Nigerians that the nation’s security forces are making steady progress in the fight against terrorism and banditry across the country.

Speaking on recent military operations, the minister explained that terrorists often intensify attacks during the holy month of Ramadan because some of them believe that dying during the period will earn them spiritual rewards.

According to him, this belief sometimes drives them to commit violent acts during the fasting period.

He, however, stated that the Nigerian military has adjusted its operational strategies to counter the threat more effectively.

According to him, in the past few days, troops have taken over several locations previously occupied by terrorists, eliminated some of their commanders, and seized their assets.

The Defence Minister also disclosed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved several measures and resources aimed at strengthening ongoing military operations across the country.

He emphasized that all arms of the nation’s security forces are working together as a team to ensure the success of the mission and restore peace to affected communities.

The minister noted that recent coordinated operations by the armed forces have disrupted several terrorist networks, forcing many of the fighters to abandon their hideouts while troops continue clearance operations in affected areas.

He added that the military remains committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements across different regions of the country, stressing that ongoing operations will continue until peace and stability are fully restored.

While acknowledging the sacrifices made by security personnel, the minister noted that the country has also lost some brave officers and soldiers in the line of duty, describing their deaths as deeply regrettable.

He praised the courage and dedication of the armed forces, saying their sacrifices will not be in vain as the government remains determined to support them with the necessary resources and equipment.

The Defence Minister also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing operations.

He appealed to citizens not to lose hope or become discouraged by reports of attacks, assuring that terrorists and bandits are suffering heavier casualties, including the loss of their commanders, as security operations continue nationwide.
