A man in a viral video circulating on social media has accused the Kogi State Government of making lopsided political appointments, alleging that indigenes of Okene Local Government Area are dominating key and “juicy” positions in the state.
In the widely shared clip, the visibly aggrieved speaker claimed that most strategic appointments under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo have allegedly been concentrated in Okene, the hometown of the governor.
He argued that other local government areas across Kogi East, Kogi West, and parts of Kogi Central are being sidelined in the distribution of political offices.
The man called on the governor to ensure fairness, equity, and inclusiveness in appointments, stressing that Kogi is a diverse state with three senatorial districts that should be adequately represented in governance.
According to him, continued marginalisation of other areas could breed discontent and weaken public trust in the administration.
He urged political leaders, elders, and stakeholders across the state to intervene and promote unity.
The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users echoing his concerns and demanding transparency in the appointment process.
Others, however, defended the Ododo administration, insisting that appointments are based on competence, trust, and political considerations rather than ethnic or local government sentiments.
Some commentators noted that allegations of imbalance in appointments are not new in Kogi politics, where questions of zoning and power sharing among the three senatorial districts—Kogi East, Kogi West and Kogi Central—often dominate political discourse.
A political analyst who spoke on condition of anonymity said that while every administration reserves the prerogative to appoint trusted allies, maintaining a visible spread of offices across the state helps to strengthen unity and foster a sense of belonging among citizens.
Meanwhile, supporters of the government argued that a comprehensive assessment of appointments across ministries, departments and agencies would present a more balanced picture than what is being portrayed in the viral video.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Government has not issued an official response to the allegations contained in the viral clip.
Observers say an official clarification could help calm tensions and address public concerns over inclusiveness in governance.
