Tension is reportedly brewing within the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) following the decision to name the institution’s Senate Building after the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi.
The development has sparked mixed reactions among staff, students, and alumni of the university, with many expressing surprise and dissatisfaction over the move.
Critics argue that naming a major structure after a sitting or outgoing Vice-Chancellor sets a controversial precedent and raises questions about due process and consultation within the university community.
Some stakeholders contend that such honours are traditionally reserved for individuals whose contributions have stood the test of time or who have made extraordinary sacrifices for the growth of the institution.
