Abdulrazak Isa Kutepa, prominent Nigerian entrepreneur, oil magnate, and philanthropist, has expressed profound gratitude after receiving an unexpected recognition from the President on his birthday.
Speaking to NationalWatch TV at his office in Lagos, Kutepa said, “I was truly taken aback when I received a direct message, and then the one from the President started coming through on my phone. I could hardly believe it—that the President would recognize me on my birthday and entrust me with a press release. For a moment, I almost passed out!”
The Chairman and Co-Founder of Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited added that the acknowledgment serves as both an encouragement and a motivation to scale up his contributions to the nation.
“I believe that the experience one gathers over time can now be fully applied, and I feel it’s the right moment to scale up the work I have been doing for quite some time. This gesture by the President is truly motivating,” he said.
Kutepa, who was born on February 7, 1961, in Lokoja, Kogi State, has built a reputation not only as a successful entrepreneur in the oil and energy sector but also as a committed philanthropist.
Through his foundation, he has supported educational initiatives, health programs, and community development projects across Kogi State and beyond.
Reflecting on his public service journey, Kutepa recounted his initial entry into politics, noting his participation in the Kogi State gubernatorial primaries in 2011.
“At the time, my motivation was simply to serve the people and contribute to the country. Kogi State was envisioned as a platform to continue this service. Even though my early attempts in politics did not fully materialize, I have never lost sight of the idea of service,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of visionary and committed leaders in both the private and public sectors.
“Nigeria needs individuals who are willing to think beyond themselves, who are prepared to bring experience and dedication to solving national challenges. At this stage in my life, my mind is open to exploring all avenues of service because it is ultimately about making a positive impact on the lives of the people of Nigeria,” he said.
Kutepa also reflected on the role of mentorship and knowledge-sharing in building sustainable leadership.
“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many talented people across different sectors. I believe that mentoring young professionals and empowering them with the right tools and guidance is one of the most important ways to serve our nation,” he noted.
On the business front, Kutepa highlighted the growth of Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited as a testament to leveraging local resources for national development.
“Our work in the oil and energy sector is not just about business. It is about creating jobs, supporting local communities, and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth. This experience equips me with a perspective that I believe can be applied to broader national service,” he explained.
Concluding the interview, Kutepa expressed optimism about the future and reiterated his commitment to public service.
“Recognition from the President is a call to action. It motivates me to continue striving for meaningful impact, whether through business, philanthropy, or public service. I remain committed to using my experience and resources to make Nigeria a better place for all,” he said.
