The Kogi State Government on Monday unveiled two surveillance drones alongside other advanced technological support assets as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security across the state.
The unveiling, which took place at the Government House in Lokoja, underscores the administration’s commitment to leveraging modern technology to tackle security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
According to government officials, the drones are equipped with real-time surveillance, night-vision, and data transmission capabilities that will enable security agencies to monitor suspicious movements, track criminal hideouts, and respond swiftly to emerging threats, particularly in remote and difficult terrains.
The government explained that intelligence gathered through the drones would be shared in real time with relevant security formations to aid coordinated operations and prevent crimes before they occur.
Officials further disclosed that the deployment of the drones forms part of a broader upgrade of the state’s security architecture, which includes the provision of communication gadgets, patrol vehicles, and other modern equipment to security agencies operating in the state.
The state government also emphasized that personnel assigned to operate the drones have undergone specialized training to ensure professionalism, efficiency, and responsible use of the technology in line with existing laws and human rights standards.
Speaking at the event, the government assured residents that the introduction of the drones would significantly enhance proactive policing and boost public confidence in the security apparatus.
The administration reiterated its commitment to sustained collaboration with federal security agencies, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders, noting that collective efforts remain crucial to achieving lasting peace and security across Kogi State.
Residents were urged to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, as the government pledged to leave no stone unturned in safeguarding lives and property in the state.
