In a bid to improve the welfare of residents at the grassroots, political appointees of Lokoja Ward ‘C’ have supported 250 residents with N10,000 each.
The empowerment exercise, which totaled N2.5 million, took place at the Angwan Yashi open space in Lokoja on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the Ward ‘C’ APC chairman, Sulaiman Musa, explained that each appointee contributed ten percent of his or her monthly salary to make the initiative possible.
“This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure government support reaches those who need it most,” he said.
In his remarks, the Lokoja Local Government Executive Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, commended the appointees, describing the initiative as the first of its kind in the history of the LGA.
He also pledged to contribute N50,000 monthly for the next ten months to further support the program and commended the Governor for his leadership and commitment to grassroots development.
Also speaking, the Lokoja LGA APC chairman, Alhaji Maikudi Bature, commended the appointees for their initiative and advised beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly to improve their businesses and livelihoods.
He stressed that such empowerment programs should serve as a springboard for sustainable development and urged other leaders to adopt similar community-focused interventions.
Speakers at the event praised the appointees for the initiative and prayed for them, asking for God’s blessings and continued success in their efforts to uplift the community.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, highlighting how the cash support would help meet immediate needs and support small-scale business ventures.
“This support comes at the right time and will make a real difference in our daily lives,” said one recipient.
Others noted that such initiatives boost community morale and encourage youths and women to engage more actively in economic activities.
The empowerment program also featured cultural performances and a brief talk on financial literacy, aimed at guiding beneficiaries on how to maximize the use of the funds for sustainable growth.
Local leaders and stakeholders emphasized that initiatives like this reduce poverty, improve livelihoods, and strengthen community bonds.
Traditional rulers and community heads encouraged other political appointees and leaders to replicate similar initiatives across the state, noting that such acts of goodwill foster unity, peace, and development at the grassroots level.
The exercise has been described by many attendees as a historic moment for Lokoja Ward ‘C’, reflecting a new model of leadership where public servants personally invest in the welfare of the people.
Residents are hopeful that this initiative will be sustained and inspire similar programs in other wards and local government areas.
