Rt. Hon. Alfa Umar Imam, former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja Local Government Area, has formally informed party stakeholders that he is back to the APC.
The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting he organized at his GRA residence in Lokoja on Thursday, which brought together APC executives, local leaders, and key party members.
The meeting was convened to officially brief the party on his return and reaffirm his commitment to the APC.
Addressing the gathering, Rt. Hon. Imam said his previous absence from active politics was only a brief pause.
“I don’t want to dwell on why I left. What matters is that I am back. APC is my party at heart,” he said, adding that even while away, he retained his party membership card, as others who took a temporary break, because they always intended to return.
He also highlighted the critical role of party executives, describing them as the backbone and owners of the party machinery.
“I hold the executives in high esteem. They are the ones who make it possible for anyone to hold office. That is why I invited you here today, to formally tell you that I am back,” Rt. Hon. Imam stated.
Speakers at the meeting commended him and promised to work with his leadership to make the party successful in the next elections.
They also recalled how he piloted the affairs of the party and the State House of Assembly when he was the Speaker and pledged their loyalty to him.
Rt. Hon. Imam further commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his exemplary leadership in Kogi State, noting that the governor’s initiatives in governance, infrastructure, and youth empowerment have strengthened the APC’s presence and popularity in the state.
“Governor Ododo has shown that progressive leadership can transform lives. We must continue to support his vision and work together to sustain the party’s achievements,” he said.
He encouraged unity and collaboration among APC members in Lokoja, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in collective efforts and shared vision.
He urged members to remain committed to the ideals of APC and work tirelessly to ensure the party’s dominance in future elections.
The former Speaker also highlighted some of the achievements of his tenure as Speaker, noting that the reforms and policies implemented under his leadership had laid a solid foundation for governance and party growth in the state.
“Our successes were a result of teamwork, dedication, and vision. I intend to build on that legacy as we prepare for the next political season,” he said.
Rt. Hon. Imam called on young party members to actively participate in politics, stressing the need for grooming the next generation of leaders.
He assured them that his return is not just symbolic but a commitment to mentoring, guidance, and strategic support for APC in Lokoja LGA.
The meeting concluded with a joint pledge from all present to support Rt. Hon. Imam’s leadership, promote party cohesion, and ensure that APC remains the leading political force in the area.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that his return, coupled with Governor Ododo’s administration, would inspire renewed energy and confidence among party members ahead of the upcoming elections.
