The Lokoja Local Government Administration has reiterated the enforcement of a temporary ban on crossover vigils and other night activities in isolated religious locations outside the metropolis, citing security concerns ahead of New Year celebrations.
In a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, December 31, 2025, by the Executive Chairman of the Council, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, said intelligence reports indicate that such remote areas, including mountains outside the city, could be targeted by criminal elements during the yuletide period.
The council also warned against the burning of tyres on roads during New Year’s Eve celebrations, describing the practice as dangerous and unlawful.
According to the statement, tyre burning poses serious risks to public health and safety, harms the environment, and causes damage to public property.
The chairman stressed that the bans remain in force across the Local Government Area and cautioned residents that security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute defaulters.
“The Lokoja Local Government Administration urges all residents to celebrate responsibly and safely. Let us make our New Year celebration fun, clean, and safe for all,” the statement read.
The council wished residents a peaceful and happy New Year in advance while calling for full compliance with the directives to ensure public safety across the area.
