Disciples (Murids) of the late Sheikh Shaibu Abubakar Kenchi, under the leadership of Khalifa Kenchi, who is also the Magajin-Gari of Lokoja, on Sunday marked the 30-year remembrance and Maulud Nabiyi of the renowned Islamic scholar in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The event drew clerics, family members, disciples and well-wishers from across the state and featured Qurâanic recitations, Islamic lectures, prayers and the celebration of Maulud Nabiyi, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
In his opening prayer, the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, urged the murids to emulate the virtues of the late Sheikh, emphasizing peace, discipline, humility and devotion to Islam.
He also called on Muslims to strengthen unity and promote religious tolerance across the state.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of the occasion, Justice Aboki Sheriff, commended the organisers and prayed for the repose of the late clericâs soul.
He described Sheikh Kenchi as a pillar of Islamic scholarship whose teachings continue to guide generations of Muslims.
Speaking at the event, Khalifa Kenchi said his father dedicated his life to spreading Islam, mentoring youths, and promoting moral uprightness.
He urged the murids to uphold the principles of humility, discipline and service to humanity, describing them as the core values of Sheikh Kenchiâs legacy.
In his remarks, the Maigari of Lokoja, who was represented by the Hakimi of Ward B, Alhaji Ahmed Sarkin-Zango, prayed for the late cleric and commended the organisers for sustaining his legacy three decades after his passing.
Other Islamic scholars at the event highlighted Sheikh Kenchiâs contributions to Islamic education, spiritual mentorship, and community development.
They encouraged the murids to continue preserving his teachings and ensuring that younger generations remain connected to his ideals.
Prayers were also offered for peace, unity, and progress in Lokoja, Kogi State, and Nigeria at large, while participants prayed for protection against societal ills and the guidance of youths in righteous paths.
In his vote of thanks, Khalifa Kenchi, eldest son of the late cleric and Magajin-Gari of Lokoja, appreciated all who attended to honour his fatherâs memory, describing their presence as a testament to the enduring influence of Sheikh Kenchi.
The ceremony concluded with communal supplications and reinforcing the values of charity and service that the late Sheikh Shaibu Abubakar Kenchi championed throughout his life.
