In a decisive move to ensure uninterrupted water supply during the festive period, the Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk, FNSE, on Tuesday night, December 24, 2025, paid an unscheduled visit to staff of the Kogi State Water Board to assess compliance with the directive for round-the-clock operations.

The visit was in line with the mandate of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, who has directed the Ministry of Water Resources to frontally tackle challenges affecting water supply across the state, particularly in Lokoja and its environs.

During the inspection, the Commissioner checked the level of staff presence and operational readiness at the facility, emphasizing the need for continuous treatment and pumping of water to reservoirs to guarantee adequate supply to the public.

He noted that sufficient fuel had been provided to ensure seamless switch-over to generators, thereby sustaining operations despite power fluctuations.

Engr. Farouk reiterated his earlier directive that there would be no public holidays for staff of the Old Lokoja Water Works, explaining that shift duties had been arranged to maintain 24-hour service delivery throughout the festive season.

As part of measures to ease access to potable water, the Commissioner announced that the public tap located outside the Old Lokoja Water Works would be available free of charge to residents for 24 hours.

He urged residents to cooperate with Water Board officials and assured the public of the ministry’s commitment to improved water supply under the Ododo administration.

The Commissioner concluded by extending Christmas greetings to Christian faithful, wishing them a peaceful and joyous celebration on behalf of the Kogi State Ministry of Water Resources.
