The family of the late Lawal Sule Maihaja, a retired customary court judge, on Friday held the 8th-day Fidau prayer in Lokoja, drawing relatives, friends, religious scholars, and associates to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.
The prayer, conducted at the family compound near Maigari Palace, was presided over by the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, who led Quranic recitations and supplications.
He encouraged the family to remain steadfast in faith, noting that the deceased lived a life worthy of emulation.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Lokoja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barrister Sumaila Adeku Abbas, described the late Maihaja as a man of integrity, humility, and exceptional character.
He highlighted that the retired judge was widely respected for his fairness, generosity, calm disposition, and commitment to peaceful coexistence within the community.
Barrister Abbas added that the significant turnout at the Fidau prayer reflected the positive impact the late Maihaja had on all who knew him, stressing that his passing had left a void that would be difficult to fill.
The late Lawal Sule Maihaja served for several years as a customary court judge, where he was known for his impartiality, dedication to justice, and mentorship of younger legal practitioners.
Many colleagues and former court staff described him as a role model who upheld the highest standards of the judiciary and inspired respect through his professionalism and humility.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Barrister Katun Sule expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who attended the event.
He thanked friends, relatives, dignitaries, and well-wishers for their presence, prayers, and support during the family’s time of mourning.
“Your solidarity and prayers have been a source of comfort to us,” he said, noting that the family would forever cherish the love shown.
Family members also recounted fond memories of the deceased, emphasizing his kindness, honesty, and tireless dedication to the welfare of others.
Dignitaries, community leaders, and friends shared reflections on the late Maihaja’s life, describing him as a pillar of the community whose guidance and counsel were deeply valued.
The event featured Quranic recitations, sermons, and reflections on the importance of good deeds, patience, and steadfastness in faith.
Attendees offered prayers for Allah’s mercy upon the departed soul and continued to console the family, underscoring the unity and support within the community in times of grief.
As the Fidau prayer drew to a close, the family reiterated their gratitude to everyone who came to honor the life of the late Lawal Sule Maihaja, vowing to preserve his legacy of integrity, service, and compassion.
