Hon. Sulaiman Baba-Ali, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State and the Gabi Sayadi of Lokoja, has resigned as the party leader in the Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency.
Baba-Ali made the announcement on Saturday rat his GRA residence during a stakeholders’ meeting convened to restructure the party and strengthen its grassroots operations.
He revealed the creation of a new organ, the Elders Advisory Council, aimed at enhancing party administration, and he was unanimously appointed as its chairman.
“We have created a new organ of the party known as the Elders Advisory Council, which I have been graciously allowed to chair. I have resigned my role as leader of the APC in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency. This will allow me to take care of other pressing matters,” Baba-Ali said.
Despite stepping down from his leadership role, Baba-Ali reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for all party candidates and leadership at every level.
“I remain committed to the APC and to the success of our great party in all upcoming elections,” he added.
New Leadership in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency
The stakeholders’ meeting unanimously endorsed Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu, Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, as the new APC leader in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency.
Bashiru Gegu will continue to serve as the party leader in Kogi Local Government.
Baba-Ali emphasized that the newly appointed leaders would operate independently, while the Elders Advisory Council would provide guidance and mediation where necessary.
In his acceptance speech, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu expressed gratitude to Baba-Ali for his leadership and contributions to the party.
“I want to thank Hon. Sulaiman Baba-Ali for the leadership he has provided and for his continued guidance. I look forward to working with him as we strengthen the APC in Lokoja/Kogi,” Umar Aliyu said.
Endorsements for Upcoming Elections
The meeting also endorsed all ten serving councillors for re-election and confirmed Hon. Hussein Abdelrahman Njentu as the APC chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming local government elections.
“With all of us working together, the APC will remain the party to beat in Lokoja Local Government,” Baba-Ali stated, expressing confidence that the restructuring would unify party members and improve the party’s electoral strength.
The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by party elders, elected officials, and other key political actors, all pledging continued cooperation and unity within the APC.
