The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has commended the organizers of the 6th edition of the Lokoja Boat Regatta for promoting unity, tourism, and cultural heritage along the banks of the River Niger.
Alhaji Yelwa made the commendation during the regatta held on Saturday at the Kabawa waterfront in Lokoja.
He was represented at the event by the Commission’s Director of Finance and Administration, Jimoh Haruna Gabi, who conveyed the MD’s goodwill message to participants and guests.
He described the Lokoja Boat Regatta as a laudable initiative that not only showcases the rich culture of the riverine communities but also encourages collaboration toward the development of the state’s waterways.
According to him, N-HYPADEC will continue to partner with the Lokoja Forum of Patriots (LFP) and other stakeholders in promoting water transport safety and environmental protection.
Speaking on safety measures for passengers on water, the MD noted that the Commission has embarked on several initiatives, including the cutting of dangerous trees along riverbanks, provision of life jackets, and distribution of speedboats to enhance rescue operations and prevent accidents.
He further extended the Commission’s condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area, assuring that N-HYPADEC remains committed to improving safety and supporting victims of water-related disasters.
The 6th Lokoja Boat Regatta attracted dignitaries, traditional rulers, and cultural enthusiasts from across Kogi State and beyond.
