The ancient city of Lokoja was thrown into mourning today as the remains of Alhaji Isah Maliki Ndambabo, aged 92, were laid to rest at the Hangwan-Kura Muslim Cemetery according to Islamic rites.
The respected elder, who died earlier in the day after a prolonged illness, was buried shortly after the funeral prayer led by the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban.
In his brief sermon, the Imam described the late Isah Maliki Ndambabo as a man who lived a simple but impactful life, urging mourners to emulate his humility, generosity, and devotion to faith.
The burial attracted a large crowd of mourners, including dignitaries, Islamic clerics, traditional title holders, and community leaders.
Their presence underscored the wide respect Ndambabo commanded during his lifetime as a father figure and adviser to many.
In a show of solidarity, the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, sent a delegation from the palace to represent him.
The delegation, led by senior palace officials, conveyed the monarch’s condolences to the bereaved family, describing the late elder as a “pillar of wisdom and a custodian of community values.”
Tears flowed freely at the graveside as relatives, friends, and sympathizers bid their final farewell.
Many recalled Ndambabo’s kindness and generosity, noting that his home was always open to visitors, young and old.
Others remembered him as a peacemaker who helped to resolve disputes and maintain harmony in the community.
Speaking after the interment, one of his children, Hon. Kyapi Ndambabo, expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, clerics, and the Maigari’s delegation for their support, adding that the family was comforted by the honor shown to their late father.
Ndanbabo is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who now bear the responsibility of preserving the values and legacy he left behind.
As the sun set over Lokoja, mourners dispersed slowly, reflecting on a life well spent and a voice that will be dearly missed.
