The serene atmosphere of Karaworo Street, Lokoja, was filled with solemnity and reflection over the weekend as the Abdulkadir family gathered for their annual special prayer in honor of their late parents.
The event, which has now become a tradition, was attended by relatives, friends, neighbors, and Islamic scholars, all united in remembrance and prayer.
At the family residence in Karaworo Street where the prayers were held, the gathering was marked by a spirit of togetherness.
Islamic clerics, Ustaz Ibrahim Zakari led the supplications, seeking Allah’s mercy and eternal rest for the departed souls.
They also used the occasion to remind the living of the inevitability of death and the importance of living a life rooted in faith, kindness, and service.
For the Abdulkadir family, the annual prayer is more than just a religious rite.
It is a bridge between the past and present — a chance to honor the legacies of parents who, according to relatives, lived exemplary lives of humility, generosity, and devotion to God.
Speaking at the event, one of the children, Alhaji Bashir Sulaiman, described their late parents as men and women of integrity who valued education, honesty, and community service, while their late parents were remembered for their compassion, selflessness, and unwavering support for both family and neighbors.
“Our parents taught us the value of prayer, hard work, and unity. This annual prayer is our way of keeping their memory alive and ensuring that their virtues continue to inspire us,” he said.
The prayers also provided an opportunity for Islamic scholars to shed light on the enduring benefits of good deeds after death.
They stressed that righteous offspring, charitable works, and knowledge imparted during one’s lifetime are legacies that continue to earn rewards for the deceased.
Beyond the prayers, the gathering served as a reunion for members of the extended family who traveled from different parts of the country.
Old bonds were renewed, memories of the past were shared, and new connections among the younger generation were strengthened.
Guests were later treated to light refreshments, adding a warm and communal end to the spiritual exercise.
As the event drew to a close, the Abdulkadir family reiterated their commitment to sustaining the annual tradition.
“We will continue to honor our parents with prayers and good deeds,” a family representative, Hajiya Ramatu Atine Muhammed, noted.
“Their memory remains a guiding light for us all.”
With every passing year, the prayer session has grown into both a spiritual observance and a celebration of legacy — a reminder that the impact of a good life resonates long after a person is gone.
