Lokoja Day: Maigari Of Lokoja Turbans Umar As Garkuwan Matasa Of Lokoja

The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, has reaffirmed the traditional institution’s commitment to honouring individuals who contribute significantly to the development of the Lokoja Kingdom, Kogi State, and humanity at large.

The monarch stated this on Saturday at the turbanning ceremony of Alhaji Abdulkarim Umar, as the Garkuwan Matasan Lokoja, at his palace in Lokoja, Lokoja Local Government Area of the state during the celebration of Lokoja Day.

The Maigari, who is also the Chairman, Lokoja LGA Traditional Council, stressed that titles are reserved for persons of impeccable character who demonstrate genuine concern for the socio-economic well-being of the Kingdom.

“Recognizing selfless service would encourage others to emulate exemplary leadership for the nation’s benefit,” he said.

The monarch urged highly placed individuals to drive development in their communities and the country.

The Maigari also appealed to privileged Lokojans to support their less fortunate brethren, while emphasizing on wealth circulation and brotherly care.

Furthermore, he challenged Diaspora-based Lokoja sons and daughters to return home and establish industries, and thereby foster socio-economic growth.

Speaking, the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt, Umar Yusuf described the new Garkuwa Matasa as an outstanding figure.

He also acknowledged the Maigari of Lokoja’s efforts in preserving the Lokoja Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage.

In his appreciation to the Maigari for the honour bestowed him, the new Garkuwa Matasa of Lokoja, expressed his profound gratitude to the emirate as he accepted the new title wholeheartedly.

Acknowledging the enormity of the responsibility in the title, he prayed God to guard and guide him at all times in the discharge of the expected duties.

He said “I want to assure His Highness and people of Lokoja, that I will do my best to continue to serve Lokoja and Nigerians in general”

He also solicited the cooperation and prayers of all stakeholders to discharge his duties as expected..

The historic event, was graced by prominent personalities from all walks of life, including the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Umar Yusuf Aliyu, Commissioner of Police, Prof, Hammed Sanusi, former FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani, some serving Commissioners, traditional title holders, market men and women, among others.
