It was a very colourful and memorable occasion for Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar Tanimu, when he was turbaned as the Barde of Lokoja by His Highness the Maigari Of Lokoja His Highness Dr. Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, on Saturday.
The historic event, was graced by prominent personalities from all walks of life, including the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly Rt Hon Umar Yusuf Aliyu, Commissioner of Police, Prof, Hammed Sanusi, former FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani, some serving Commissioners, traditional title holders, market men and women, among others.
Conducting the ceremonial rites for the new title holder, Chief Imam of Lokoja, Aminu Shaban, prayed God to give long life, sound health and wisdom to the new Barde of Lokoja to accomplish responsibilities ahead of him.
Explaining reasons for the selection of Tanimu as the new Barde of Lokoja, the Maigari of Lokoja said Tanimu merited the position in view of his invaluable contributions to the upliftment of the emirate and the less privileged in the society.
In his appreciation to the Maigari for the honour bestowed him, the new Barde of Lokoja, expressed his profound gratitude to the emirate as he accepted the new title wholeheartedly.
Acknowledging the enormity of the responsibility in the title, he prayed God to guard and guide him at all times in the discharge of the expected duties .
He said “I want to assure His Highness and people of Lokoja, that I will do my best to continue to serve Lokoja and Nigerians in general”
He also solicited the cooperation and prayers of all stakeholders to discharge his duties as expected..
