The Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, has expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the good people of Lokoja Local Government Area for their unwavering support as his administration marks one year in office.
In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Comrade Adamu described his first year as a period of dedicated service, developmental strides, and collective progress, noting that the achievements recorded so far were made possible through the cooperation of the state government, traditional institutions, community leaders, and residents.
“I wish to sincerely thank His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his leadership, encouragement, and continued partnership in driving grassroots development. I also extend my appreciation to our royal fathers, youths, women, and all residents of Lokoja for their trust and active participation in our developmental agenda,” the chairman stated.
Key Achievements & Initiatives
1. Swearing-in of Councillors & Inclusive Governance Pledge
– On October 13, 2025, the Chairman swore in the 10 elected ward councillors of the local government.
– He pledged to run an inclusive administration, involve all segments of the community, increase internally-generated revenue (IGR), and work in synergy between executive and legislature.
2. Distribution of Food / Palliative Support to Vulnerable Communities
– On October 7, 2025, the Chairman supervised the distribution of food-stuff palliative: 1,518 bags (25kg) from the Federal Government and 600 bags (50kg) from Kogi State Government across 239 communities in the 10 wards of Lokoja LGA.
3. Demolition of Building Suspected to Harbour Criminal Activity
– In April 2024, he ordered the demolition of a building in Old Market, Lokoja, suspected of being a hideout for criminals. A sack of cannabis was discovered during the operation.
4. Security Measures on Highway and Sub‐Communities
– In October 2025, he commenced erecting temporary security tents and deploying 24-hour patrols along the Karara-Jamata-Abuja highway (within Lokoja LGA jurisdiction) to protect travellers and local communities from kidnapping / insecurity.
– He also received the Comptroller‐General of the Kogi State Vigilante Service in October 2025, who commended the local government’s support and enhanced security synergies.
5. Agriculture & Youth / Women Empowerment through Poultry Farming
– In July 2025, via the Livestock Productivity & Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), application/registration forms for women and youth poultry farmers were distributed in Lokoja under his oversight.
6. Corporate / Industry Engagement & CSR Oversight
– In August 2025, he led management staff on a working visit to Unicane Industries Limited (Jamata) to discuss collaboration, corporate social responsibility (CSR), security, environmental issues (air & water pollution), and community development.
7. Financial Transparency, Accountability & Commendation
– In July 2025, the Auditor-General for Local Government in Kogi State commended Lokoja LGA under his leadership for transparency, prudent use of public funds and effective teamwork.
8. Vote of Confidence by Legislative Council
– On April 17, 2025, the Lokoja Legislative Council passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman, citing modest achievements within six months: completion of lock-up shops along Kewon Road & Oworo Estate Road, upgrading five Primary Health Care facilities, provision of logistics and support to security agencies, restoring safety in student communities around Federal University Lokoja and Kogi State Polytechnic, and tackling banditry/ kidnapping in parts of Oworo, Kupa and Kakanda.
9. Organisational Structure / Appointments
– On September 21, 2025, the Chairman inaugurated the new Secretary and Supervisors for the Lokoja LGA (Works/Land & Housing, Health, Education, Budget, Agriculture) and announced aides/key staff (Chief of Staff, PA, Special Adviser on Media, etc.).
10. Engagement with Education Stakeholders
– In October 2025, the Chairman received the State Coordinator of the National Examination Council (NECO), who appealed for support to establish a Centre for the Gifted in Lokoja and to sponsor indigent students. The Chairman pledged to formally engage the idea before end of first quarter.
11. Ban on Planned Protest by Okada Riders (Security/Order Maintenance)
– In June 2024, the Chairman banned a planned protest by commercial motorcyclists (“Okada” riders) ahead of the inauguration of the Kogi State chapter of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), citing risks of traffic disruption and lawlessness.
